Keitele Church

Keitele Church was designed by architect Wolmar Westlin. It is a cross‑shaped church with a tower, built from timber donated by local residents. The church was consecrated on the third Sunday of Advent in 1876.

The church was renovated in 1938 according to plans by architect Toivo Anttila, again in 1966 according to plans by architect Veikko Larkas, and in 1987 with plans drawn up by Keitele‑based construction engineer Niilo Saastamoinen. The exterior of the church was repainted in 2002.

The altarpiece is titled “Jesus on the Cross”. It was painted by artist Ilmari Heinonen in 1941 and donated to the parish.

The current organ is the third one used in the church. It was acquired in 1976 from the Kangasala Organ Factory and has 16 stops.
