Rautalampi Museum

The Rautalampi Museum houses the cultural‑historical treasures of the Rautalampi mother parish and the Southern Konnevesi National Park. Each year, the museum also features interesting changing exhibitions and art displays. The museum shop sells handicrafts and other local products, books and jewellery — for yourself or as gifts. For example, the Rautalammin emäpitäjä since 1561 shirts are available exclusively at the Rautalampi Museum shop.

Rautalampi Museum is a local cultural history museum founded in 1938 and located along the main street of the village centre. The impressive three‑storey museum building was designed by architect Toivo Anttila. The museum originated at Korhola Manor, where the lady of the manor, Aina Peura (1872–1940), began collecting items from the old Rautalampi mother parish area and displaying them in the manor workers’ cottage. Aina Peura (née Kukkonen) grew up with a strong interest in local heritage in her home at Hinkkala in Konnevesi. Her father was Albert Kukkonen, known also as a folk poet. The master of Korhola Manor, commercial counsellor Heikki Peura, donated the plot of land, the funds needed to establish the museum, and a forest estate to support its maintenance. Today, the museum collections include over 70,000 items: objects from peasant and gentry culture, photographs, archival materials, Northern Savonian art, and an open‑air museum area with historic buildings.
The museum is maintained by the Peura Museum Foundation.

Museum Summer 2026

The summer 2026 exhibitions of Rautalampi Museum are open from April 21 to September 30, 2026.

In honor of the 130th anniversary year of word artist Yrjö Kaijärvi, three new exhibitions have opened: in the art hall, you can see an exhibition by Kaijärvi’s beloved, Reidar Särestöniemi, titled “Särestöniemi’s Love.” The museum’s “Kaijärvi Gallery” presents more about Kaijärvi’s life as a poet, translator, and writer. On the outdoor museum area, the Yrjö Kaijärvi Poetry Trail invites you to linger even when the museum itself is closed.

Local creators and artisans are featured in the Design Rautalampi exhibition. In addition, visitors can explore the comprehensive permanent exhibition “Along the Rautalampi Route” as well as the outdoor museum area.

Visits outside regular opening hours require booking in advance (door‑opening fee applies).
