Pielavesi Local Heritage Museum

The Pielavesi Local Heritage Museum, located on Teijunmäki hill, was established in 1958. The museum grounds contain six buildings that have been relocated to the site. The main building is an old parsonage workers’ cottage with four rooms. The main room has been furnished in an early‑20th‑century style, with separate areas traditionally designated for men and women.

The museum’s main exhibition presents the region’s handicraft heritage and different aspects of life, from birth to death and from everyday routines to celebrations. Two smaller rooms contain exhibitions completed in 1999–2000: the shoemaker’s room displays not only shoemaking tools but also a tanner’s tools. The other room, the parsonage chamber, is furnished in the spirit of an early‑1900s parsonage.

In addition to the main building, visitors can explore a smoke cabin and the fish shed, whose exhibition on Pielavesi’s fishing heritage was completed in summer 2004. The area also includes a windmill, a loft‑style storage building, and a drying barn.

During the summer, the museum hosts changing exhibitions and various events.
