Haavikkolehto
On the border of Suonenjoki and Rautalampi, along Highway 9, lies a nature conservation area that is part of the Natura 2000 network and belongs to a nationally rare geological boulder field region. Large moss‑covered boulders, ancient charred standing deadwood marked by an old forest fire, and old aspens make the area a unique natural site. There are protected caves on the edges of the area. The terrain is difficult, and there are no marked trails.
The boulder field was formed at the end of the last Ice Age when boulders transported by the glacier accumulated in the area. Among the boulder formations, several boulder caves have formed, the largest of which is Karhuluola ("Bear Cave").
