South Konnevesi National Park – The Finest Nature of Northern Savonia and Central Finland
South Konnevesi National Park is located on the border of two regions, Northern Savonia and Central Finland. The park is known for its stunning lakes and rocky areas, as well as its rich biodiversity. Etelä-Konnevesi, one of Central Finland’s most beautiful large lakes, is the central lake of the Rautalampi water system, offering unforgettable experiences for hikers and boaters alike.
The lake’s water is crystal clear, and its steep, rocky shores and undeveloped cliffs create a unique wilderness atmosphere. The islands and inland shores also feature lush deciduous forests, providing a contrast to the otherwise rugged and pine-dominated landscape.
Boating on South Konnevesi
Boating is a popular way to explore South Konnevesi National Park. The area has numerous campfire sites, landing spots, and harbours maintained by Metsähallitus, municipalities, and private owners, providing versatile services for boaters. Canoe rentals are also available, and guided paddling trips allow you to experience the area’s natural beauty up close.
Hiking and Kalajanvuori
Hiking is another popular activity in South Konnevesi. The park’s most famous hiking and viewpoint is Kalajanvuori, rising majestically 115 meters above Lake Kalajan. Kalajanvuori offers breathtaking views of the surrounding national park and is a favorite destination for both day hikers and more experienced trekkers.
